LINKS UPLIFT Program

The Windy City (IL) Chapter of Links Incorporated runs the International Trends and Services (ITS) committee, which drives the LINKS UPLIFT program. This initiative focuses on health disparities, educational advancement, youth development, and international awareness in South Africa and Jamaica.

Key Initiatives and Achievements:

  • Healthy Lifestyle Promotion:

    • Introduction of vegetables in daily school lunches.

    • Daily tooth-brushing and dental screenings for students.

    • Organized intramural sports and provided PE uniforms.

    • STEM Education:

      • Addressing educational deficiencies, especially in STEM disciplines.

      • Support for rural Zulu people with the lowest literacy rates in South Africa.

      • Partnerships with NSBE Jr. for STEM exposure and education.

  • Provision of School Supplies:

    • Distributed essential items like winter coats, shoes, underwear, and sanitary pads to students in need.

    • Focus on ensuring basic educational support for learners

    • Empowerment Programs:

      • Initiatives like the Global Youth Ambassadors program to inspire and develop black township girls into global change agents.

  • Cultural Exchange:

    • Facilitation of international exchanges involving members from the USA and South Africa.

    • Celebrations like International Women’s Day to foster global connections and cultural traditions.

 

International and National Partnerships

We work with a diverse array of partners both locally and internationally to maximize our impact. These include local schools, health clinics, municipal departments, and other Links chapters. Our collaborative efforts extend to organizations like NSBE, Colgate Palmolive, and more, ensuring a broad and sustainable reach.
